New training in Jinja: Hairdressing

One of the new plans of BEHOD is to start a hairdressers training. In order to start this training BEHOD needs equipment, which the Essent trainees are now looking for. Updates and ideas can go here... :-)

Hello Neighbours,
Just as you have been doing i want to thank you more and more for your contributions.
As you very well know the computer classes are running and it has been your intiative with all that we have achieved.
But as we were going on in line with the ministry of labour gender, we found we needed to add another course and this is the Cosmetology to catter for the girls and boys who never went far with their classes.
And now we have a group Essent trainees who have come up to help so that we can reach out to all.
Thank you all for the intiatives. :-D

I contacted hairdresser schools here, but the students bring their own equipment, so I contacted wholesalers instead, to see if they have equipment available.
I will let you know as soon as I hear from them.

Do you know if there are hairdressers in Uganda or local institutions over there that might be able to help?

I have not heard from the hairdresser wholesalers yet. I'll keep on contacting them.

Furthermore; I discussed more with some organisations here about tricycle possibilities. One organisation that send me to Indonesia is the small dutch organisation Horizon Holland. (www.horizonholland.org)
They are very enthusiastic about looking into the possibilities for another tricycle project.
They wonder if you can be the person they can contact. Is it okay that I will give them your email address?

It would be very helpful if you could give an indication about how many tricycles would be needed and maybe some pictures from the people that would be helped with one. Is that something you can supply?

Glad to tell you that the wholesaler has some materials, like scissors and combs, available. Not much, but at least something! We also got hold on a hairdryer and trimmer.
Apparently a colleague of us is going to Uganda soon, so maybe he can take the materials with him. Otherwise we need to arrange something else.

I cannot find a document on what exactly is needed, can you tell me where i can find that?

As you've heard from Jenneke, we have succesfully collected some hair dressing material. So far we have: 3 hair dryers, 2 electrical hair trimmers and a couple of scissors.
The problem we are facing now is to get this material to Jinja. We have been in contact with our national airline but they are not very helpful so far. I was thinking on a couple of options like: other dutch volunteers planning to visit Jinja could take some extra luggage...

Hi Rinse,

That's great news!!
Because of the NGO registration, BEHOD doesn't have to pay customs for any goods that help their projects. Last time I sent a number of things to Paul, I gave Paul a Letter of Donation (will post that here) which states that the goods supplied are not for personal use and includes a 'bill of materials' (list of goods sent). So, before you pack everything, write down what's in the package.

In our experience it takes about 3 - 4 weeks for things to arrive in Jinja.
