Posts about Tourism

Hi Sayantan-

Can you send me an email so that I can give you some background on the project?

jwells18@gmail.com

Thank you for your kind offer. I look forward to hearing from you.

Facilitator for Sankhuwasabha

Hi Jaco-

I agree with you and think a marketing plan is very important. Lotte and others have also provided similar recommendations. So far, in talking with Tejanath, the local community has chosen to focus on the website first. Unfortunately, I feel this has really stalled any progress here at Nabuur, largely because the local community still needs to clarify the direction they want to take the project.

Hi everyone-

I hope that you're all enjoying the holidays. I had the opportunity to talk with Fred and some members of HICA this morning. This is a summary of what we discussed:

Community Meeting

Fred reported that members of the community responded very positively to the meeting that was held 2 weeks ago. They told me that the community members promised continuous cooperation, money for them to continue to use the Internet to communicate with us and help with transportation costs.

I did write a plan to make working on the tourism project easier. Feel free to give other/better/more suggestions!

Warm regards, Lotte

Proposal to promote tourism in Sankhuwasabha

Goal:
Promote tourism within Sankhuwasabha by supporting existing organizations.

RESOURCES FOR TRAVELLERS

Step 1. What do you want to offer?
Develop a clear vision about what you want to offer.

How?

Hi everyone-

I was able to talk with Tejanath this morning and get some updates. One of the biggest concerns that I have at this point is that the local community seems to be very focused on basing this project around the www.sankhuwasabha.com website. While I do agree that if properly developed, this can be a useful marketing tool, I cautioned again about having the website become the primary focus of this project.

Hi Stella and Mary,

Stella: Thanks for putting all this info together. It really starts to make much more sense and I do not feel even near as confused to how I felt before our chat. Great that you decided to populate the info on the table as it also makes it a lot easier to understand.

Apart from Mary’s questions/comments, at this stage I do not feel I have too much to add to get a better idea of what’s happening.

As we have shared with you before, we feel there is more work needed before we undertake any task related with contacting travel agencies to send volunteers.

Define the tourism project

Step:
1

Arun Valley Concern Center would like to support tourism efforts throughout the Sankhuwashbha district of Nepal and draw more tourists into the region. In order to help us establish a clear direction forward, we need a good project definition.

What do we want to offer in terms of support to existing tourism agencies?

What support can we offer to the local community to allow them to benefit from the tourists that come through the area?

Hi Barry-

Thanks so much for your post. I do agree with you about the SWOT analysis. I feel that is a missing link as well.

In terms of comparison with the competition, I'm not sure that we are necessarily after developing a product like a "tourism company", but rather drawing tourists to the region...at least I think. I will have to defer to Tejanath on that, but that is my understanding so far. I think it is a point that we definitely need to clarify. I suppose though even at that we would still need to define what it is that the district has to offer that other areas do not.

Research and Identify Volunteer Organizations

Step:
2

Many people who travel to Nepal to volunteer also go trekking. For this task, we would like to research and again develop a database of volunteer organizations who place volunteers in Nepal many times to help in the schools. This research will be used to reach out and establish relationships with organizations who may be interested in learning more about the Sankhuwasabha district and all it has to offer those who come to visit.

Research and Create a Database-Trekking Agencies

Step:
2

A large part of our project will revolve around marketing all that the Sankhuwasabha district has to offer. For this task, we are looking for volunteers to help us research and develop a database of trekking agencies located in Kathmandu and also around the world.
