The Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) is a multi-donor partnership of the World Bank. Our goal is to help the poor gain sustained access to improved water supply and sanitation services (WSS).

We work directly with client governments at the local and national level in 25 countries through 4 regional offices and in the World Bank headquarters, Washington D.C. Our aim is to achieve the Millennium Development Goals of halving the proportion of people without access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation by 2015.

Research and Identify Organizations Providing Health Aid in Uganda

Step:
1

In order to help us identify prospective partners and supports within the local community, we need help researching local Aid organizations providing health care support and outreach services. These could be Uganda based agencies, or International agencies working in the local area.

For this task, we are looking to devise a list of these agencies to include:

1. Organization Name
2. Location and contact information
3. What type of assistance they provide.

Hi Frank,

Piping water into a home requires much infrastructure and can be quite costly. I am not an engineer, so I am not sure how this would be done, but based on my very basic knowledge, you would require a source of water that is then cleaned (water treatment facility/equipment) then is piped into houses through an underground system (usually they are underground pipes). This would be a huge undertaking that would be quite costly and usually is done at a community/municipal or regional level by governments. You would have to speak with an engineer about this....

The following are posters that can be printed off for use in the community related water, sanitation and hygiene. Some communities have had them printed on more durable materials such as cloth or potato sacks or canvas. There are a series of 30 posters. These ones are in English.

A poster showing the advantages of ecological sanitation systems.

Prescription for Health is a DVD put together by the International Development Research Centre. While the movie was made in the 1980s, the messages contained in the movie are still very relevant today. The only way you would know that this movie was made in the 80s is by 2 references to the 1980s. It is great for showing to the community for general sensitization on health, water and sanitation. The file is very large, but below is a transcription of the movie plus a link to the website where the movie can be downloaded.

The following is a general description of the biosand filter; specifications of the biosand filter; lab testing (technical data) and literature all related to the biosand filter.
