Posts about agriculture
Hi Ken
I am new to this site and have been reading through the chats.
I have been actively promoting agriculture through children and directly to communities.
I am mainly using biological farming by introducing microbes to the soil and also natural forms of N & K
I sent you an email requesting a copy of your DVD's and want to introduce your methods.
Looking forward to your reply.

Find ways to use the existing land in order to generate revenues
There is land that can be used for income generation projects. Help the local community brainstorm the potential for this land.
Research Foundations that support the purchase of Equipment
Kyomya has started educating the farmers and provided seeds and tools for through a farmers cooperative. However, one of the biggest obstacles to their success is having a vehicle to transport the cash crops to the market. The farmers cooperative would like to purchase a truck for this.
We require someone to research foundations, organizations or other agencies that may be able to assist with finding a vehicle for the farmers. Alternatively, research ways that the farmers may acquire a vehicle.
A Busy Time in Kyomya - September 2008 Newsletter

It has been a while since I put together a newsletter, so I just wanted to update everyone on the progress that has been made so far.
Avocado - Possible Income Generating Activity
Avocados are grown fairly easily in Kabondo, which is located in one of two areas in Kenya that can grow them. The community would like to examine the possibility of turning avocados into an income-generating idea including the production of value-added products (such as oil for beauty products or use in cooking/food preparation).
Help us gather research on the possible uses of avocados and its parts (oil, seed, leaves, skin, etc). Any ideas are welcome!
The committee has selected 80 farmers to be part of a trial planting 'co-op'. Each farmer has received a small micro-loan to supply him seeds, new hoe, bug spray and training. Each farmer will plant food for his family - and also join with others to plant food for the market. This year they will try to rent a truck to take the produce to Jinja town to receive 40% more on their produce! And, each farmer will pay back his loan, and put 10% of his profit into the co-op bank account to be used for new tools, equipment, truck rental, loans to someone in trouble.

Hi Everyone.
Africa, the bread basket for most developed countries, but yet there is not enough food for most people of Africa.
This year most rural and communal market gardens have not planted enough due to rising costs of inputs.
I know for a fact that most rural Zambian farmers did not receive their input packages and have not planted which will cause some problems for essential crops like maize, soy bean, dry bean which is the staple diet.
