We as a group of the Over Betuwe College in Bemmel are currently busy with this project of setting up a marketing cooperative in Khaparapada. We formulated several research questions and methods to get the answers on those. We would like to post it here and get feedback/comment on our research question.
How can we set up a marketing cooperative?
Covering the needs of the market.
What do we want to accomplish?
• What are good farming methods?
• How can we make farming sustainable, cheap and easy?
• What is the best farming method to learn the farmers?
• How do we make sure the farmers get the right income?
• How can we make the village independent?
How do we find out what the right crops are?
• What crops are possible to cultivate in the area?
• Which crops have a high demand?
• What crops are already cultivated in the neighbourhood?
• What crops have a good costs/wins ratio?
• What methods are the inhabitants already able to use?
• What is the climate, soil and weather like?
What is a good farming cooperative?
• What are good examples of other farming cooperatives?
• How do farming cooperatives work in practice?
• Advantages and disadvantages of farming cooperatives?
• How big does the cooperative have to be?
How do we make sure that the products are sold?
• Where can they sell the products?
• How can the products be transported to the trading place?
• How do we make people aware that the products are cultivated there?
• How can we make the right marketing mix (products, place, price and enterprise)?
How can we give the products enough quality?
• How can we teach the inhabitants the farming methods?
• Which tools do the people need and how can we get them there?
• Where in the area is the best soil/place to cultivate the crop we use for our farming cooperative?
Methods
For all those research questions and their sub-questions there are different research methods that can be applied to get the right information and answer on the question.
Our first question, What do we want to accomplish? We can attain this information by doing some problem solving research. We can research what are the best farming methods etc. to solve the problem of too less cultivated crops to get enough money from it. The info we can get from sources like internet and we contact our local representative.
How do we find out what the right crops are? For answering this question, we use the descriptive research. We attain a lot of different sources to get a broad view about what crop are the best to cultivate. We also contact our expert on agriculture and our local representative about what crops are already cultivated there to know if they will actually grow there.
What is a good farming cooperative? To find this we have to do evaluating research. We take a look at other plans in India and look at how successful they are and if we can use their ideas in our own. Of course, no plan used before is perfect in our situation, but the information we can receive can be extremely useful.
How do we make sure that the products are sold? To know this, we have to research at the local market there. We look at what products are sold during the last months/years. For this we use correlational research. A very important thing is here to contact local institutions there and our local representative to know what are good products which have a high demand there. We also use evaluating research for this.
How can we give the products enough quality? We will have to do evaluating research in order to answer this question. The quality we are needing will be achieved by other project. We look at the market and their quality.
