Find a source to supply and transport Mosquito Nets
Step:
2
The school is in need of 20 mosquito nets for the children who live there. Mosquito nets can literally help save the life of a child. For this task, we need people to contact resources that can provide for the purchase and transport of 20 mosquito nets to the school.

I have done a little bit of research about mosquito nets in Nepal and came upon a series of very recent articles ( 14-16 June 08)discussing the Nepalese Government's strategies to reduce malaria cases in Nepal.
Below is part of one article found at:
http://southasia.oneworld.net/Article/nepal-takes-measures-to-tackle-mal...
"According to the UN World Health Organization (WHO), malaria is a major health problem in Assam and other eastern states.
In eastern Terai, according to the District Public Health Office (DPHO), the threat of malaria is large and more than 300 cases have been detected since March in a single district of Morang, 500km southeast of Kathmandu.
"So far we have already distributed 400,000 long-lasting insecticidal nets and been actively involved in improving services for immediate diagnosis and treatment," explained Thakur.
The country aims to cut malaria cases in half by 2015 in line with its Millennium Development Goal.
Thakur said the government had made plans to distribute about 2.2 million mosquito nets to the poor and build better services in all public health centres to provide free diagnosis and immediate treatment to the poorest communities."
I also found that PSI has a Nepalese branch and is also working on this problem. I found contact details for them and an email addresss so I will get in touch asap and find out if they can help, in the first instance, or give us some advice on who can help us.
Another alternative is that we could purchase the Nets if we could raise a little bit of money. I found a Not for Profit company that manufactures mosquito nets in Nepal. They are called Anand Textiles and are based in Biratnagar,
Koshi. I'll hold off on researching further with this group until I hear back from PSI. :-)
Hi again, the contact at PSI is currently on travel leave to July 31 so, unfortunately, I'll have to wait for him to get back in order to get some advice.
Hi Carolyn-
I've been in touch with PSI too for the Kayole-Soweto project and wasn't aware they had a branch for Nepal. I never heard anything back from them. I'm finding though that some branches of organizations in Asia are much better at getting back than others. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I'm making an assumption here that since the Nepalese Govt has made a recent public announcement about it's intent to reducte the rate of malaria, then surely they have made plans to distribute the mosquito nets. It would be best to try and tap into this if we can, and maybe the Ministry for Health. Tejanath- are their any government run clinics in Khadbari whom you could make a phone call to or visit and ask about the recent announcement from the Government?
...if not, we can investigate other groups who might want to donate the nets.
I have contacted MALARIA NO MORE, Netherland via email.
Once I get feed back , will revert you.

Sabina
Hi Sabina! Thank you so much. I appreciate your efforts on behalf of these students.
Warm Regards-

Dear Carolyn and all all neighbours
As far as the Malaria in our locality is concerned there is no epedimic of Malaria in Hilly area like Khandbai which is 1030 metres from sea level.
So the government has no provision to distribute the mosquito nets in the Hillya area. I have not heard about it.
However because of over population there are lots of mosquitoes and they bite people in warm season. It is like Kathmandu. Mosquitoes bite but no malaria. People can not sleep without mosquitoes in the Spring and summer seasons.

To clarify Tejanath, our intent then is to simply have the mosquito nets available to the chidlren in the special school but it's not because there is a malaria problem in the area?
Dear Carolyn
Yes. It is . Our purpose is to distribute the mosquito net to the the children of the special school.

I received reply from MALARIA no more . Unfornately, they are currently working in Africa only.
We will keep trying other sources.

Tejanath, how much would it cost to purchase 20 nets from a store in Khadbari? They should probably be the LLIN ones (they have insecticide imbedded in them).

That's great Tejanath. So we know that if we can't find someone to donate these nets to SESF then we at least have a dollar amount in our minds and could look into raising these funds via Neighbours or other sources.
Dear Carolyn DV
Thank you very much for your interest to help us to buy mosquito nets for the deaf children studying at the school
