Write a pamphlet for Jinja that can be used for promotion
Step:
6
We need a short, appealing story about the activities of BEHOD in Jinja Central. It needs to contain a description of this project as well.
Make it an appealing, nice to read, 'sexy' leaflet.
Paul will provide pictures :-D

Dear all,
I've received an email from Paul describing the foundation of BEHOD and their work so far. I'll post it here:
Additional information (from a chat with Paul):
- so far 6 people have been trained in tailoring & knitting. 3 others will complete training soon.
- BEHOD has bought 4 sewing machines, to enable these 9 to produce dresses, shirts, shorts which can be sold in the local market & surrounding villages.
- 13 disabled & orphans sleep in BEHOD's premises. The others are taken care of by other wellwishers in the area.
Pelle
Hallo Neighbours,
Am grateful with all that you are doing with all the contributions i do request that you put also here.
Hello Pelle,
I seem to have succeeded in giving the world the impression that that posting of yours above this one, was from me - when it is not. Do remove my picture - so that it does not give people the wrong impression! It was my fumbling and lack of IT skills, that led to it.
And have you got in touch with African Orphanaid, yet? Please do - it might make a huge difference to Paul and his colleagues' work in Jinja!
I will put writing the pamphlet on hold and wait for other neighbours to comment on the introduction, and add or remove stuff they are not comfortable with. It might very well be that some of my fellow Africans, may not like references to those who once occupied our continent - in which case I apologise to them: and they are free to remove the offending parts! Regards to all at Jinja Central.
Best wishes,
Kofi
I have only a moment to write before being away from computer for a week. Can I urge that text be simple and clear and perhaps be drawn from blog writing? You have to get people's attention swiftly and immediately.
best wishes
Dennis
Hello Dennis,
Hope I catch you before you disappear for a week. Its not meant for the blog - its for a pamphlet. But when you say "blog writing", is that a specialised kind of writing? Where does one get taught this specialised skill, on the web?
And if you still think it needs to set a different tone, right from the start, even if its meant for a pamphlet, let me have an example of what would grab your attention, please.
Going away for a family break? If yes, enjoy your well-deserved break, Dennis!
Best wishes,
Kofi.
Dear Kofi and colleagues,
Thanks you the initiative for the pamphlet. It's a brilliant idea. However, I will be grateful if you clarified on the target group for this pamphlet. Besides, its good to know history or the past events but remember when it comes to development all stakeholders have to be on board and involved without offending any part. Perhaps it could also desirable to know that Uganda is at the moment undergoing some peace reconciliatory consultations in some parts of the cpuntry.
Kofi, I thought the first draft was good only that its too lengthy. What I considered of more value to this project was your ending remarks. Otherwise I comment the Directors for starting with the proposed courses in their menu.
God bless you.
Sonny
Pelle and Paul,
Your initiatives have been marvelous so far. Actually, perhaps about to say a success story. However, my concern is sustainability. Do we have any contigency plans in place? What about maintenance? If I am lacking some information may be its another issue. But that should be clear for the continuity of the project as we move forward to improve it further with growing interest in it and the ever increasing changes in technology.
Sonny
Dear all,
sorry for taking some time to reply.
the last few days have been quite busy (running, working, making a video :-D )
Will be back on track in a few days!
Thanks for all the ideas, work and enthusiasm!!
Pelle :-D
Hello Soony, its a joint effort so incorporate your ideas in it! Best wishes to you!
Hello Kofi
Expect my draft for incorporation soon, perhaps by Sunday evening. Thank you for your effort.
Sonny
Thanks Sonny,
I'm looking forward to see your contribution, as is Kofi, I think.
You've also asked about the sustainability of this project. You can find more about that subject in the discussion about the business plan. Paul and the BEHOD board have taken all the ideas provided there and are working on a new business plan now. I expect to see a first draft this weekend.
To Kofi:
Thanks for the first try. I know it's most difficult to start writing, commenting is easier :). I must agree with Sonny, that the document seems a bit lengthy. On the other hand, the information about Uganda's history can provide valuable background for those who don't know about Uganda or Africa at all.
In the meantime, Nabuur text writer Jessica, has also written a story about Jinja, which is currently featured on the homepage (link))
Lots of ideas... if only I could choose.
:-D
Pelle
Thanks to all of you for the invaluable suggestions, you have made, thus far. I will take them all on board and hopefully, if I go to the countryside this weekend, work them into the final draft.
And it was very refreshing hearing you on Skype today, Sonny. I am sold on its value for Nabuur.com village projects - we must make use of such IT 'platforms', to brainstorm and move our projects forward faster! If any one else wants to share their Nabuur.com experiences, my Skype ID is: kofi.thompson - and I'd be delighted to hear from you!
Well, Pelle, you have a genius in residence, in Jessica! And now you will not have to worry about grumpy old Kofi Thompson walking away in a huff, because busy people don't respond immediately to him - you have got Jessica: whose piece is perfect!
I vote that we accept her work for the pamphlet - it really is very very good! So, sadly, there will be no excuse for me to shirk work on the farm this weekend, by saying: "I have a deadline to meet, for submitting an article to an organisation abroad" - which is always guaranteed to get me out of work, entailing walking for miles on end, in the forest: when I'd rather put my feet up, and have fascinating conversations with my dear dogs! Congratulations, Jessica - its a brilliant piece!
