As we have been working hard to maket Jinja Central my dear friend Rebecca surgested to put a page on myspace but there was a small error we made it is http://www.myspace.com/behod with that you go through.
As we were looking for more ideas as how we can work together to get support to Jinja central some of the opptions brought were not favouring Uganda PayPal account as our dear sister who did the satch gave the information but there is an alternative of using the MONEYGRAMME would do batter its easy and reliable as long as i have the identity card and the password you send then it will work well. :lol:

First of all, thanks for all the enthusiastic replies!
21 of you have replied to the invitation that was sent out by Nabuur. Others have already contributed to this project in an earlier stage. This email goes to all of you.

What has happened
In the previous months a business plan has been drafted. From this plan appeared that the startup costs for an internet café are very high. We discussed this and decided we could try to start with ICT training (without internet) first. Paul thinks he’ll be able to manage getting the training up and running, although we still need suggestions how to make it self sustainable during this stage. Setting up the internet café, needed to generate income for the centre, will be the next phase of the project.
Aletta Jacobs College in Hoogezand, the Netherlands, has promised to donate computers. Pelle has arranged 2 m2 space in a container that will leave for Uganda at the end of September.
Our neighbour Rebecca has set up a MySpace page for BEHOD, the community based organization Paul works with: www.myspace.com/behod

Before the end of 2007 we want to reach the following targets:
- Set up ICT training for disabled and orphans (project phase I)
- Set up promotion for Jinja Central: website & articles
- Prepare / Plan project phase II: internet café
What can you help with?

1. A business planning team, that will make a separate plan for phase I, generate ideas for income generation etc.
2. A marketing / promotion team, that will construct the website, write promotional materials to attract attention for the work of BEHOD
3. An education team that will think of the education that should be given, find educational materials etc.
4. Pelle will coordinate the shipment from the Netherlands.
We’ll try to arrange an online meeting with each of these teams in the coming weeks, to get the work started. If that appears impossible, we’ll divide the actions via email.
What can you do now?

I would like to join the Business Plan team.
I have some ideas for generating more revenues from the available infrastructure.
Since we already have computers, can we use them as a Business Services center for public? If yes, Document Typing, Printing, Scanning, CD and DVD copying/writing services can be offered for a fee.
Except typing other activities (printing, scanning, etc.) can be done even when computers are being used by children.
Such services are required by school/ college students for project work or assignments or thesis. Also, small business people use these services when they are not computer-savvy or need to do some urgent work or while travelling !
But, we may need to arrange for a Laser Printer (US$ 200-300) and good scanner (US$ 100-150).

And may I humbly know if it is the case that the founder of Nabuur.com is so busy that he is unable to react to my suggestion, that Nabuur partners Rotary International and Lions International - so that they bring the influence and expertise of their members in places like Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Mexico, etc. etc., to bear, when www.nabuur.com village projects in such nations, commence?
I know a simple volunteer like me is not an important factor in the scheme of things, as you deliberate upon the future of Nabuur.com at your HQ offices, but at least do you not think it would encourage some of us, if we were made to feel that we are being shown some respect: by answering us, when we indicate that we care enough about Nabuur.com to make suggestions - no matter how foolish or irrelevant those ideas might be to HQ?
And another thing, Pelle: I am sure that I speak for many neighbours, when I point it out to HQ, that as we did not join Nabuur.com to look for emotional partners or lovers, we are unhappy, and wonder just how it came about, that our profiles are on Google - as if that is what we are in Nabuur.com, for?
Being a married man, who is faithful to his absent wife, who works away from home, as a medical doctor, elsewhere, in rural Ghana, I am afraid I find that totally unacceptable, Pelle. Nabuur HQ must do something about it - and tell us mere mortals, exactly what it intends to do, to bring this outrage to an immediate end! Best wishes to all at Jinja Cental - as well as to all at the many other villages at www.nabuur.com: from a very frustrated and totally fed up Kofi Thompson!

ONLINE VOLUNTEERS BRING HOPE TO UGANDA'S PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED!
When Britain's Second World War Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill described Uganda as the "Pearl of Africa", the East African nation was then a prosperous country, that was a tourist mecca, popular with Europe's middle classes, as an African wildlife safari destination.
After it won its independence from Britain, the Owen Falls Dam, provided abundant hydroelectric power, for the many Asian-owned factories, in the industrial town of Jinja - creating jobs for the locals. Sadly, however, in the seventies, during the infamous military dictator Iddi Amin's murderous tyranny, the country's Asian population was expelled from Uganda en masse - a situation that created mass unemploymnet, in the once-thriving industrial hub of Uganda.
Amin's callous decision, eventually led to the near-total ruining, of the East African paradise. And it hit the low point, when it became one of the epicentres, of the African HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Over the years, as its current leader, President Yoweri Museveni, has brought stability to the country, Uganda has made an astonishing economic recovery - and it has tackled its HIV/AIDS problem head on: by acknowledging it openly, and through extensive education, has succeeded in bringing down the once-high infection rates, to one of the lowest on the African continent.
And from the new Uganda , comes a wonderful story of hope, in which online volunteers from the online volunteer website www.nabuur.com are collaborating with a local NGO, BEHOD, to help Jinja Central's HIV/AIDS orphans and physically-challenged, to learn vocational skills, such as: ... , ,.... , ...... , and IT skills, in a small community-run project, initiated by BEHOD.
The Jinja Central project, developed initially, out of the prison missionary work, of local lay preacher Paul..... It was Paul.. who first made contact with Nabuur.com. The online volunteers were able to get a Dutch college....... to donate computers - which are currently on the high seas, en route to Uganda!
The Nabuur HQ online facilitator of the village project Pelle.... was able to raise money to pay for the shipping costs, by getting sponsor to pay for him to take part in a fun long distance race in Utrecht. Pelle was able to raise 1000 Euros.
The money will enable computer training to start, almost immediately the computers are installed, and the IT centre is finally up and running......

Today, thanks to this collaboration, Jinja Central's disadvantaged youth, are learning vocational skills, such as: ... , ,.... , ...... , and IT skills, in a small community-run project, initiated by BEHOD.
The Jinja Central project, developed initially, out of the prison missionary work, of local lay preacher Paul..... It was Paul.. who first made contact with Nabuur.com. The online volunteers were able to get a Dutch college....... to donate computers - which are currently on the high seas, en route to Uganda!
The Nabuur HQ online facilitator of the village project Pelle.... was able to raise money to pay for the shipping costs, by getting sponsors to pay for him to take part in a fun long distance race in Utrecht. Pelle was able to raise 1000 Euros.
The money will enable computer training to start, almost immediately the computers are installed, and the IT centre is finally up and running. Paul and his colleagues, who have seen their project make considerable headway, since their project was adopted by www.nabuur,com, express their apprecaition to the .online volunteers of Jinja Central, thus: "We ..........."

The students working on the assignment for Jinja Central are Marc, Joel and Stefan. Together they are Cals College Consultants... I think I mentioned them in one of the newsletters.
They have discussed with their teacher they will review the business plan. I met them in Utrecht (they live quite close) and we discussed making a plan for the computer centre (phase II). They'll also try to compare suitable power solutions for the centre (as electricity goes off quite often). If we're lucky they will also make the website, we're discussing that right now. :-)

First and foremost I would like to wish all the neighbours a prosperous 2008!
Good idea to set up this forum! It has been quiet in our group for a little while because of important tests and assignments at school, but we will have the holidays to catch up with a lot of work.
Stefan and Joël will be dealing with the business plan and I will be making an effort to give advice on how to solve the energy supply problem. After that we will work out a plan for future management of the centre and start promoting the project together with Behod trough a webpage.
Since the start of the year we have been enormously driven and it is sad school sometimes takes the best out of us so we cannot totally dedicate our time to Jinja.
We will keep you updated!

21 of you have replied to the invitation that was sent out by Nabuur. Others have already contributed to this project in an earlier stage. This email goes to all of you.

What has happened
In the previous months a business plan has been drafted. From this plan appeared that the startup costs for an internet café are very high. We discussed this and decided we could try to start with ICT training (without internet) first. Paul thinks he’ll be able to manage getting the training up and running, although we still need suggestions how to make it self sustainable during this stage. Setting up the internet café, needed to generate income for the centre, will be the next phase of the project.
Aletta Jacobs College in Hoogezand, the Netherlands, has promised to donate computers. Pelle has arranged 2 m2 space in a container that will leave for Uganda at the end of September.
Our neighbour Rebecca has set up a MySpace page for BEHOD, the community based organization Paul works with: www.myspace.com/behod
Goals for 2007
Before the end of 2007 we want to reach the following targets:
- Set up ICT training for disabled and orphans (project phase I)
- Set up promotion for Jinja Central: website & articles
- Prepare / Plan project phase II: internet café
What can you help with?
To realize these goals we want to form a few teams, that will focus on the following subjects:
1. A business planning team, that will make a separate plan for phase I, generate ideas for income generation etc.
2. A marketing / promotion team, that will construct the website, write promotional materials to attract attention for the work of BEHOD
3. An education team that will think of the education that should be given, find educational materials etc.
4. Pelle will coordinate the shipment from the Netherlands.
We’ll try to arrange an online meeting with each of these teams in the coming weeks, to get the work started. If that appears impossible, we’ll divide the actions via email.

I appreciate your efforts to keep the project on track and continuosly tring to find solutions.
I would like to join the Business Plan team.
I have some ideas for generating more revenues from the available infrastructure.
Since we already have computers, can we use them as a Business Services center for public? If yes, Document Typing, Printing, Scanning, CD and DVD copying/writing services can be offered for a fee.
Except typing other activities (printing, scanning, etc.) can be done even when computers are being used by children.
Such services are required by school/ college students for project work or assignments or thesis. Also, small business people use these services when they are not computer-savvy or need to do some urgent work or while travelling !
But, we may need to arrange for a Laser Printer (US$ 200-300) and good scanner (US$ 100-150).

Please do try and drum up support from the other neighbours, to contribute to this task. Perhaps its best if it is used for a blog? I am afraid I will have to insist that we all contribute to it - so that it is truly a joint effort!
And may I humbly know if it is the case that the founder of Nabuur.com is so busy that he is unable to react to my suggestion, that Nabuur partners Rotary International and Lions International - so that they bring the influence and expertise of their members in places like Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Mexico, etc. etc., to bear, when www.nabuur.com village projects in such nations, commence?
I know a simple volunteer like me is not an important factor in the scheme of things, as you deliberate upon the future of Nabuur.com at your HQ offices, but at least do you not think it would encourage some of us, if we were made to feel that we are being shown some respect: by answering us, when we indicate that we care enough about Nabuur.com to make suggestions - no matter how foolish or irrelevant those ideas might be to HQ?
And another thing, Pelle: I am sure that I speak for many neighbours, when I point it out to HQ, that as we did not join Nabuur.com to look for emotional partners or lovers, we are unhappy, and wonder just how it came about, that our profiles are on Google - as if that is what we are in Nabuur.com, for?
Being a married man, who is faithful to his absent wife, who works away from home, as a medical doctor, elsewhere, in rural Ghana, I am afraid I find that totally unacceptable, Pelle. Nabuur HQ must do something about it - and tell us mere mortals, exactly what it intends to do, to bring this outrage to an immediate end! Amin's callous decision, eventually led to the near-total ruining, of the East African paradise. And it hit the low point, when it became one of the epicentres, of the African HIV/AIDS pandemic. However, over the years, as its current leader, President Yoweri Museveni, has brought stability to the country, Uganda has made an astonishing economic recovery - and it has tackled its HIV/AIDS problem head on: by acknowledging it openly, and through extensive education, has succeeded in bringing down the once-high infection rates, to one of the lowest on the African continent.
And from Jinja Central in the new Uganda , comes a wonderful story of hope, in which online volunteers from the online volunteer website www.nabuur.com are collaborating with a local NGO, BEHOD, to help empower Jinja Central's teeming youth, who include scores of HIV/AIDS orphans and physically-challenged. Today, thanks to this collaboration, Jinja Central's disadvantaged youth, are learning vocational skills, such as: ... , ,.... , ...... , and IT skills, in a small community-run project, initiated by BEHOD.
The Jinja Central project, developed initially, out of the prison missionary work, of local lay preacher Paul..... It was Paul.. who first made contact with Nabuur.com. The online volunteers were able to get a Dutch college....... to donate computers - which are currently on the high seas, en route to Uganda!
The Nabuur HQ online facilitator of the village project Pelle.... was able to raise money to pay for the shipping costs, by getting sponsors to pay for him to take part in a fun long distance race in Utrecht. Pelle was able to raise 1000 Euros.
The money will enable computer training to start, almost immediately the computers are installed, and the IT centre is finally up and running. Paul and his colleagues, who have seen their project make considerable headway, since their project was adopted by www.nabuur,com, express their apprecaition to the .online volunteers of Jinja Central, thus: "We ..........."

That is good news. Are they going to be getting actively involved in discussion on Nabuur too, as at least one of those items (website) is directly related to a task on here?

Hi Mary,
The students working on the assignment for Jinja Central are Marc, Joel and Stefan. Together they are Cals College Consultants... I think I mentioned them in one of the newsletters.
They have discussed with their teacher they will review the business plan. I met them in Utrecht (they live quite close) and we discussed making a plan for the computer centre (phase II). They'll also try to compare suitable power solutions for the centre (as electricity goes off quite often). If we're lucky they will also make the website, we're discussing that right now. :-)
When there's any progress we'll report it here.

Hi to all,
First and foremost I would like to wish all the neighbours a prosperous 2008!
Good idea to set up this forum! It has been quiet in our group for a little while because of important tests and assignments at school, but we will have the holidays to catch up with a lot of work.
Stefan and Joël will be dealing with the business plan and I will be making an effort to give advice on how to solve the energy supply problem. After that we will work out a plan for future management of the centre and start promoting the project together with Behod trough a webpage.
Since the start of the year we have been enormously driven and it is sad school sometimes takes the best out of us so we cannot totally dedicate our time to Jinja.
We will keep you updated!

During the past month regular course work at school has demanded much of our time, hence we were unable to spend any time on Nabuur. Now we have a deadline to reach for our final paper and as it is about Jinja we will focus on the project again. We have another week of holiday to go so I hope to finish a big part of the Energy Problem Solution in a few days time. After the holidays we will make sure our project posters are placed at school so the website will get more attention.
